Upgrade Guide: Choosing the Right Koni Kit for Your Vehicle

With several KONI ranges to choose from, selecting the right setup can feel overwhelming. This guide simplifies the decision.

Step 1: Define Your Priority

Before choosing a product, ask yourself what matters most:

  • Maximum comfort with improved handling? → KONI Special Active
  • Sporty feel with adjustability? → KONI Sport
  • Budget-friendly improvement? → KONI STR.T
  • Off-road capability? → KONI Heavy Track or RAID
  • Full suspension overhaul with lowering? → KONI Kit or GTS Coilover

Step 2: Dampers Only vs. Complete Kit

Dampers Only

If you're happy with your current ride height, simply replacing the dampers is the most cost-effective upgrade. KONI dampers are direct replacements for factory units.

Complete Kits

KONI offers kits that combine their dampers with H&R lowering springs. These are perfectly matched for optimal performance and typically lower the car 25–40mm.

GTS Coilovers

For maximum adjustability, KONI GTS coilovers offer adjustable ride height, adjustable damping, and a complete threaded body design.

Step 3: Consider Your Vehicle

Cars

Most passenger cars are well served by Special Active, Sport, or STR.T dampers. If you've lowered your car, Sport dampers paired with appropriate springs are the go-to choice.

4x4s and SUVs

KONI Heavy Track provides improved on-road behaviour while maintaining off-road capability. For serious off-road use, KONI RAID is the choice of Dakar Rally competitors.

Classic Cars

KONI Classic dampers bring modern damping technology to vintage vehicles, respecting the original character while improving safety and handling.

Light Commercial Vehicles

KONI Special dampers are ideal for vans and light commercial vehicles, offering improved handling and exceptional longevity for high-mileage applications.

Step 4: Installation

We always recommend professional installation by a qualified mechanic. After fitting:

  1. Get a four-wheel alignment
  2. If adjustable, start at the softest setting
  3. Allow 500 miles for the dampers to bed in
  4. Fine-tune adjustment to your preference
